State suspends New Haven club’s liquor license over violence

Recent violence at a New Haven nightclub has prompted state officials to suspend its liquor permit indefinitely, according to the state Department of Consumer Protection.

On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Maureen Magnan signed a summary suspension of the permit for Terminal 110. The business, at 240 Sargent Dr., is a restaurant, lounge and nightclub.

In a letter dated Sept. 24 to the department’s Liquor Control Division, Interim New Haven Police Chief Renee Dominguez expressed support for the enforcement action based on recent violence at the business.

Shortly after midnight on Sept. 23, there was a large fight and shooting there, with at least one individual shot, a male with a wound to the groin area, and three rounds fired, according to state and city officials. Gunfire also erupted there on Sept. 5, when investigators responding to the business found 27 assorted spent bullet casings, one live bullet and two bullet fragments around the club’s parking lot.

“This is an extensive number of rounds fired in a populated area that could have led to a mass casualty incident,” Dominguez wrote, in the letter.

DCP Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull said the suspension is “justified and necessary” to address the situation.

“The occurrence of two shootings at this venue in a matter of weeks is a huge threat to public safety and highlights the need for better control of the premises by our permittees,” Seagull said. “People should feel safe entering any facility that holds one of our licenses.”

Due to the suspension, the business can’t serve alcohol “until further notice,” according to the state.

Kendrick Bracey, permittee for Terminal 110, could not be reached for comment.
