Stroud joins New Haven BIZ

Lauren Stroud

Lauren Stroud of East Hampton has joined New Haven BIZ as account manager and director of events. She will be responsible for sales and event management.

Stroud has worked for NHB’s parent company, New England Business Media, for two years as project and events manager. She previously worked for Xavier High School as assistant director for marketing, communications and events.

Stroud was graduated from Salve Regina University and is pursuing a master’s degree in management from the University of Saint Joseph.

Douglas C. Mintz of Redding has joined Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP, as a partner in the firm’s litigation group and a member of its alternative dispute resolution practice area. Mintz, a long-time state judge, announced his retirement from the bench in December. He was appointed to the court in 1993 and served as the civil presiding judge and assistant administrative judge for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk and as administrative judge and civil presiding judge for the Judicial District of Danbury.

Lou Guerci

Bead Electronics, a Milford manufacturer of custom contact pins, has promoted Lou Guerci to president. He succeeds Ron Andreoli, who will remain with the company as director of special projects through mid-year. Guerci, who previously was vice president of sales & marketing, assumed his new role on Jan. 1 and will report to Jill Mayer, CEO of parent company Bead Industries Inc. Guerci holds advanced engineering degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has more than 25 years of experience in the electronics and technology sector, previously working at Winchester Electronics, Amphenol and Teradyne.

The board of directors of Colony Hardware Inc., an Orange-headquartered direct-to-jobsite distributor of construction materials and jobsite supplies serving construction firms and specialty contractors, announced the promotion of Colony founder Michael Weiner to chairman and president, and Mark Patton to chief executive officer.

Weiner acquired Colony from the original owners and founded the direct-to-jobsite distribution model in 1988. He has since built the business from a single hardware store in Meriden to a leader in direct-to-jobsite distribution of construction materials and jobsite supplies with 35 branches in 11 states. Patton joined Colony in 2011 as CFO/COO. Before that he was CFO at Matco-Norca Inc.

Richard C. Mullins Jr.

Sign Pro Inc. of Plantsville has named Richard C. Mullins Jr. vice president of business development. Mullins was previous executive assistant to the president and director of the Institute of Technology & Business Development at Central Connecticut State University. Family-owned manufacturer Sign Pro was founded in 1990 and today employs some 70 workers.

The Accelerator for Biosciences in Connecticut (ABCT) has named Tom Gerson of Old Saybrook head of coaching. Based in Branford, ABCT helps emerging bioscience companies grow by providing entrepreneurship education and business networking to access global funders and prospective team members. ABCT is a project of CTNext, formerly Connecticut United for Research Excellence.

Sophie Stevens

Sophie Stevens has joined Liberty Bank Investment Services in Middletown as vice president, investment services and as a Raymond James Financial advisor following Liberty’s recent acquisition of Simsbury Bank & Trust. Stevens previously was a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney.
