Target hiring for W. Hartford store

target paid leave Rendering | Contributed Target debuted its first-ever small storefront in West Hartford in August.

Target will employ nearly 100 workers when the discount chain debuts in late summer its first Connecticut new-format store in West Hartford’s Bishops Corner retail corridor.

The Minnesota retailer announced plans last December for a small-format store at 333 North Main St., site of a former Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store that previously housed Adams Supermarket. The opening date is Aug. 18.

Target has set two hiring fairs for June 15 and June 17 from 10 a.m. to 6: 30 p.m. at Windsor’s Hilton Garden Inn, 555 Corporate Dr., Target Store Director Sarah Woodcock said Tuesday. Store leaders will conduct interviews with applicants. Walk-ins are also welcome.

The smaller, 59,000-square-foot footprint for the planned West Hartford store mirrors others the chain is opening nationwide in urban areas, dense suburban neighborhoods and near college campuses unable to accommodate a full-size Target. It will be Target's 21st Connecticut store; it has 3,050 workers here, a spokesman said.

Like their larger counterparts, the smaller stores still offer assorted food and beverage items, apparel and accessories, health and beauty items, home essentials, seasonal merchandise, electronics and toys.

Target’s Bishops Corner expansion comes in the wake of grocer Whole Foods’ recent announcement of plans to shut its Bishops Corner location -- one of its two West Hartford stores -- and opening a new store in Avon.
