Retail giant Target Corp. says its first Connecticut small-format store will open Sunday in West Hartford’s Bishops Corner shopping center.
The Minnesota retailer said the 59,000-square-foot store, similar to its larger counterparts, will still sell food and beverage items, apparel and accessories, health and beauty items, home essentials, seasonal merchandise and electronics, among other items.
The Bishops Corner store at 333 North Main St., site of a former Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store and Adams Supermarket, will also house a CVS pharmacy. Customers there can also purchase items online for in-store pickups within an hour.
After holding several hiring events in recent months, Target said the West Hartford store employs about 100 people.
Target will compete with two other grocery stores in Bishops Corner, including the Crown Market and Big Y World Class Market. The retail corridor also houses Marshalls, TD Bank and others.
In total, Target has 20 full-size stores in Connecticut, including six in Greater Hartford.
