High-tech testing equipment maker Bloomy Controls Inc. says it has opened its new 30,000-square-foot headquarters in South Windsor, completing its move from neighboring Windsor.
The company, which sells its systems to aerospace and other manufacturers to test avionics controls, medical devices, lithium-ion batteries and a variety of other components, had been based out of a facility on Marshall Phelps Road in Windsor for more than 20 years.
About a year ago Bloomy bought its new headquarters on 8 Nutmeg Road South, a property that was jointly owned by Glastonbury-based private investment firm Hollister & Moore and attorney Carolyn Martino. Over the past year the company has built out the facility, and incrementally moved its 30 employees there, Bloomy officials said.
"We expanded our manufacturing, integration and lab space with the capability to provide all of the automated electronic test equipment for a new aircraft, robotics or vehicle program," Bloomy founder and President Peter Blume said. "Furthermore, automated test systems from Bloomy help customers connect a digital thread from requirements through R&D, validation, integration, certification and production."
The company’s bread and butter is serving the aerospace and defense sector, which makes up about 60% of its revenue. Raytheon Technologies Corp., which merged with United Technologies Corp last year, is a customer.
However, Blume told HBJ in February that he sees a new potential opportunity on the horizon. The expanded headquarters space could create new opportunities in emerging technologies, such as driverless cars. If and when that technology takes off, Bloomy wants to be well positioned, with enough capacity to provide testing equipment to vehicle manufacturers.
