As part of a larger strategy to expand its footprint, Trinity Health of New England has added services in Cheshire and recently relaunched its facility as a center for primary care and specialty services.
The system’s former Cheshire Primary Care facility at 1154 Highland Ave. is now the Cheshire Access Center, featuring primary care, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, gastroenterology and urology clinicians. The center also debuted a redesigned occupational health space and offers blood draw, laboratory, x-ray and radiology services.
Trinity Health of New England plans to open “more than half a dozen” Access Centers in the state as part of efforts to expand beyond its regional base in Waterbury. The four-hospital system is an affiliate of Trinity Health of Michigan, one of the nation's largest Catholic health networks.
Dr. Steven Schneider, president of Trinity’s flagship Saint Mary’s Hospital, said, “We’re focused on making quality health care accessible to all the communities we serve, and this location brings patients in the Cheshire area the services they want and need, close to home.”
Trinity also opened a new access center in Rocky Hill in November with services including primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, general surgery, pulmonology, rheumatology, orthopedics, physical therapy, x-rays and laboratory work.
Trinity Health’s President and CEO Reginald Eadie said bringing care to patients is the driver behind the new access centers.
“We hear our patients and our community when they tell us that making healthcare accessible and convenient is critical to their health journey,” Eadie said in a statement. “Our new access center brings specialized services all under one roof, in a location that is close to home for so many.”
Major health systems including Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health are also investing in outpatient centers and urgent care clinics as patients seek more convenient care.
Hartford HealthCare alone has expanded to 430 care sites across the state and hospital-based care represents only 49% of the system’s revenue today, compared to 70% in 2004.
