Universal Health Care Foundation names new president

Caprice Taylor Mendez is the new president of the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut.

The Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut, a nonprofit that pushes policies that aim to make healthcare more affordable, has named Caprice Taylor Mendez its new president, a role she began today.

She replaces Frances G. Padilla, who retired after 10 years in the role.

Mendez, an immigrant to New Haven from Guatemala who graduated from Boston College and Harvard, comes to the foundation with over a decade of expertise as an organizer, coalition builder, trainer, advocate, and communicator, the nonprofit said.

Under Mendez’s leadership, the Middletown-based health-justice nonprofit, which has previously fought for policies including a public insurance option in Connecticut, said it will continue to implement a five-year plan to significantly decrease factors most impacting people affected by health inequalities across the state, challenge the status quo, and highlight the link between health justice and racial, economic, and social justice.
