Legrand, an international company with a major West Hartford facility, debuted a GFCI outlet with USB charging this week, the first such fixture on the market.
GFCI (ground-fault circuit interrupter) outlets are used in bathrooms, kitchens and outdoor settings where water use can risk electric shock. The outlets quickly disconnect when an imbalance in current is detected, indicating a potential electric shock to a user.
The new device allows USB charging in a range of settings for both USB Type-A and USB Type-C devices.
“This is a versatile, often-requested combination device that provides an all-in-one solution for charging problems that typically require several devices,” said Manny Linhares, Legrant senior director of product management, strategy and IoT. “Combining code-compliant ground fault protection with accessible USB charging for the first time, this innovative outlet accommodates the most current technology trends.”
Legrand, an international conglomerate based in France, has its North American headquarters at 60 Woodlawn St. in West Hartford. The firm reported global sales of $7.4 billion in 2019, according to a company statement.
Great product, provides both circuit protection and USB charging options with same device. Saves space, time and Money! Great idea
