Westfarms mall on the West Hartford/Farmington border on Wednesday announced it will reopen May 20 with reduced hours.

Initial mall hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays starting next Wednesday. The schedule mirrors hours announced this week by other malls in-state, including Westfield Shopping Centers, which are also slated to reopen May 20.

Gov. Lamont's office on Saturday released its “Reopen Connecticut” guidelines for the first phase of reopening businesses that were closed by executive order after the March 10 emergency declaration. Previous “non-essential” businesses permitted to reopen beginning next week include retail stores (standalone as well as in shopping centers and malls), restaurants, offices and other businesses and public accommodations.

Westfarms said it will implement several new practices to ensure the safety of customers and staff during the COVID-19 outbreak. They include:

  • Increasing the frequency of deep cleanings through the facility;
  • Using stronger disinfectant when possible;
  • Encouraging social distancing and the use of face mask through new signage;
  • Offering hand sanitizer at designated stations;
  • Turning off drinking fountains;
  • Removing furniture and resetting seating areas in common areas to allow for greater social distancing;
  • Allowing mall walkers access to the facility beginning at 10 a.m;
  • Offering curbside pickups in certain areas adjacent to the four main mall entrances.
