Susan Heffernan- Gaieski, 2024 Women in Business Honoree

Susan Heffernan-Gaieski is a managing director with Deloitte & Touche LLP, a Big 4 accounting firm that provides audit and assurance, consulting, risk and financial advisory, and tax services to a wide variety of clients.

Heffernan-Gaieski is in the audit and assurance business and serves as the office audit leader for the Hartford office and the energy, resources and industrials industry leader for New England.

As a CPA, she provides financial, accounting and business advisory services to clients ranging from emerging growth companies to large, public, multinational corporations in a variety of industries.

What have been your biggest professional accomplishments?

As a leader at Deloitte, I have contributed to the growth of the practice, development and retention of professionals, and implemented a cross-functional approach to serve our clients.

My biggest professional accomplishments occur when I can help clients achieve their goals by bringing the knowledge and experience of the organization to them.

What’s the next big goal you want to accomplish professionally?

Supporting the growth of climate-focused companies in New England is a focus I’m passionate about; helping these emerging growth companies by professionally supporting their business needs can help to make New England a leading marketplace, which will ultimately contribute to helping us meet national and regional climate goals.

What’s one of the biggest professional challenges you’ve overcome?

Midway through my career, I pivoted roles and changed my industry focus, entering a completely unfamiliar area and, in some respects, starting fresh.

Being able to retool and succeed in my new role was a challenge professionally, but ultimately a success that got me to where I am today.

How are you involved in the community?

My involvement in the community includes a variety of activities with both local and national organizations, mostly aligned with those in which I can bring my children and spend time not only volunteering but also where I can serve as a role model and teach them the importance of giving back.

What are your keys to maintaining business success?

Maintaining business success requires a strong client focus, continuous innovation, and adaptability. Prioritizing my own well-being by ensuring that I balance activities outside of work, including time with family and friends, helps me to bring my best self to work every day and succeed in the workplace.
