The University of Hartford has appointed two new deans to its academic leadership team, including a new leader of its business school.
The appointments come as UHart is still searching for its next president, following the departure of former President Gregory Woodward last June.
The new academic leaders include Aarti S. Ivanic, who has been appointed to lead the Barney School of Business, and Josie Brown, who has been named dean of Hillyer College and the College of Arts & Sciences.
Ivanic succeeds Carmen Cotei, who has served as interim Barney School of Business dean since May 2023.
Ivanic comes from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York, where she has served as the founding dean of the Nicolais School of Business since 2021.
Previously, Ivanic was the academic director of MBA programs at the University of San Diego Knauss School of Business, where she oversaw curriculum, academic program review and AACSB accreditation.
Brown comes to UHart from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she has served as the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences since 2022. Prior to that, Brown spent 17 years at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass., in both teaching and administrative roles.
She served as interim dean for two years and assistant dean for seven years in the College of Arts and Sciences.
In its announcement of the new deans, UHart didn’t provide an update on its president search.
However, in a Feb. 2, 2024 note to members of the “UHart community,” University of Hartford Regent Michael Daglio, who chairs the presidential search committee, wrote that the school has “narrowed its focus to a small group of candidates” and was “on track towards our goal of selecting two finalists by the end of this month.”
According to the school’s estimated search timeline, a new president will be announced in April, with a start date in July 2024.
