Albert Bros. Inc. announces promotions

Albert Bros. Inc., a Waterbury-based, fifth-generation family business focused on scrap metal processing and recycling, recently announced promotions at the company, including a member of the Albert family.

David Shaw

David Shaw has been promoted to senior vice president. He joined the company in 2015 after over two decades of maximizing business performance for corporations in the metals industry and across manufacturing and distribution, according to an announcement. 

Jake Albert has been promoted to vice president. He joined the company in 2019 and represents the fifth generation of the family-owned and operated business. His responsibilities will include operations management, directing and implementing marketing, sales and operational procedures. His focus will also include developing and implementing business strategy for growing sales, increasing productivity and maintaining safety conditions.

The company was established in 1895.

Arts Escape announces new executive director 

Wendy Mitchell of Brookfield has been named the new executive director of Arts Escape, a  nonprofit arts education organization based in Southbury. 

Board of Directors President Debbie Gatto said Mitchell brings “vast experience” in arts programming and is already developing new ideas for the organization.

Mitchell is an award-winning writer, musician and educator who has been an active arts promoter in the greater Danbury area for two decades. For the past five years, she has taught writing workshops, scriptwriting and other arts-based classes through her art school in Ridgefield. She has taught musical theater at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center in Danbury. 

Mitchell was founding executive director of the SHACK (Sandy Hook Arts Center for Kids), which provided free arts, music, theater and pet therapy classes for children and their families affected by the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Becky Butler, who founded Arts Escape in 2012, is retiring as executive director but plans to continue to be involved, including serving on its board of directors.

Workforce Alliance names new communications leader

The New Haven-based Workforce Alliance has appointed Bobbi Brown as director of communications and development. 

Brown leads the implementation of strategic marketing programs for the nonprofit workforce development board, which serves 30 towns in south-central Connecticut.

Bill Villano, president and CEO, said Brown’s background and expertise will help elevate awareness of the organization.

Brown most recently managed communications initiatives for the Bridgeport-based nonprofit  Career Resources Inc., where Brown supported statewide workforce development programs for disadvantaged communities.

Local arts council leader named to Washington, D.C. post

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven announced that its executive director, Daniel Fitzmaurice, has been named inaugural chief of staff at Americans for the Arts in Washington D.C., a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the arts and arts education advocacy.

Since 2017, Fitzmaurice has played a leadership role in the efforts to grow and expand the Arts Council.

The Arts Council’s board of directors has appointed Winter Marshall to serve as acting executive director until a permanent replacement is found. Marshall has been with the council for two decades, most recently as operations director.
