All 8 CT counties named natural disaster areas due to drought

Gov. Ned Lamont

Farmers in all eight of Connecticut’s counties are now eligible to receive federal assistance, following the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s approval of Gov. Ned Lamont’s request to expand the natural disaster declaration due to this summer’s drought.

The approval means agricultural producers statewide can be considered for assistance from the Farm Service Agency, such as emergency loans, to offset the costs of production losses they experienced.

Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New London and Windham counties were named primary natural disaster areas. The other two counties, New Haven and Tolland, were named contiguous disaster counties.

“Agricultural producers support thousands of jobs in Connecticut and are a critical component of our economy,” Lamont said. “I strongly encourage any farmer operators in Connecticut that experienced losses because of the drought to reach out to their local Farm Service Agency office for information on assistance that may be available.”
