Area law firms announce attorney promotions

Law firm Murtha Cullina recently promoted attorneys Jodie L. Driscoll and Jonathan M. Horne to partner and Juliana García-Uribe to counsel. 

The promotions were effective Jan. 1. The firm has Connecticut offices in New Haven, Hartford and Stamford.
 
Driscoll represents clients in commercial real estate, banking, affordable housing and municipal law. She handles all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including financing, acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and development.

Jonathan M. Horne

Horne represents businesses, lenders, creditors, trustees and individuals in all aspects of the bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy restructuring and workout process.  In his litigation practice, he represents clients in complex business cases, including director and officer liability claims, fraudulent transfer litigation and other commercial disputes.

Juliana García-Uribe

García-Uribe represents individuals and businesses with various immigration matters, including assisting clients with obtaining immigrant and nonimmigrant visas abroad and helping businesses navigate the Department of Labor's PERM Labor Certification process. She counsels clients on citizenship and adjustment of status before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and on waivers of inadmissibility.

Wiggin and Dana elects new partners

The law firm Wiggin and Dana recently elected seven new partners, effective Jan. 1, and added five lateral partners in 2021.

According to the firm, the new partners reflect the firm’s continued strategic growth. Its New York office alone grew by four partners. The firm also added partners in its emerging companies and venture capital, health care and international trade compliance practices, and broadly across its corporate and litigation practices.

The seven newly-elected partners are:

Matthew C. Brown co-chairs the manufacturing industry practice group. He resolves manufacturing and supplier disputes through mediation and arbitration and has tried to verdict multimillion-dollar jury and courtside manufacturing claims. 

Nathan E. Denning leads large, complex litigation from pre-suit investigation through verdict, appeal or settlement in a wide range of practice areas. 

Robyn E. Gallagher, a former accountant, has a complex litigation practice focusing on product liability, aviation and insurance.  

Daniel E. Goren advises companies across a wide range of industries on compliance with U.S. export controls and trade sanctions regulations. 

Michael L. Kenny Jr. focuses on commercial, probate, construction and maritime litigation in federal, state and appellate courts, as well as domestic and international arbitration. 

David R. Roth focuses on complex civil litigation and appeals. 

Adam Silverman advises mature and emerging growth companies on commercial agreements, venture capital and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, governance and general corporate matters. 

Goren, Roth and Silverman are based primarily in the firm’s New Haven office.

The firm’s 2021 lateral partner additions included:

Jonathan A. Golub, chair of the fund formation and investment management practice group, helps emerging and established managers launch funds and establish their related investment adviser and general partner entities. 

Jonathan Harris advises established and emergent life science companies on all aspects of IP matters, including patent licenses and strategic alliances, litigation, IP diligence, freedom to operate and prosecution.

Vanessa L. Maczko advises individuals and families on multigenerational asset transfers, such as closely held business interests, marketable securities, art collections, real estate, tangible personal property and insurance policies. 

Dimitrios P. Tournas focuses on commercial and residential real estate transactions, often involving high-net-worth individuals and family offices; corporate entity formation, and financing low-income housing and tax credit transactions. 

Kristina Wesch advises on health care transactions, bankruptcies and out-of-court restructuring and reorganization matters.

University of Bridgeport appoints new strategic plan leader

Elena Cahill

The University of Bridgeport recently appointed Elena Cahill to serve in the new role of vice president of innovation, strategy and advancement. 

In addition to continuing to oversee the university’s Bauer Hall Innovation Center, Cahill will be responsible for developing the university’s strategic plan, as well as management of advancement operations, including fundraising to support program expansion, capital projects and other initiatives. She will also lead the university’s government and external affairs programs, serving as the contact for city, state and federal officials. 

Cahill reports directly to President Danielle Wilken.

Cahill has served as director of Bauer Hall Innovation Center since its founding in 2018. Its mission is to provide a collaborative environment and resources to foster innovation and assist in the creation and growth of businesses founded by students and others in the community. 

Under her leadership, the center has helped hundreds of students build business plans that led to the founding of companies in industries including technology, retail, food and beverage, health services and travel.

Cahill previously served as director of the School of Business and launched the university’s Student Entrepreneur Center in 2014.
