City architects tapped for Washington development

Pickard Chilton, a New Haven-based architecture studio, has been picked to design a large-scale mixed-use office project in Bellevue, Wash.

Skanska, a Swedish company, is developing the project, known as “The Eight,” which will include some 800,000 square feet of space, including a 25-story office tower, retail, a 7,000-square-foot public plaza and private balconies. It is scheduled to be finished in 2023. 

Anthony Markese, principal of Pickard Chilton, said in an announcement that the project will have a “compelling architectural style that will raise the design aesthetic in Bellevue.”

Meanwhile, it will also reflect the city’s tradition and incorporate exterior terraces to provide tenants with views near and far, he said.

“The Eight” will have a design with social distancing in mind, including touchless controls, terraces and outdoor spaces, according to the company. Bellevue has seen an influx of technology companies recently, fueling demand for office space.

Pickard Chilton, located on Chapel Street, has designed projects around the country and world, including in Ireland, Japan and Germany.
