As Pride Month winds down, Gov. Ned Lamont wants the LGBTQ+ community to know Connecticut is a welcoming destination for all their travel adventures year-round.

Lamont recently announced that Connecticut is the first state to create a global partnership with International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA). The association’s professional network includes more than 11,000 LGBTQ+ welcoming accommodations, destinations, service providers, travel agents, tour operators, events and travel media, and its members are found in nearly 80 countries.

Under the partnership, Connecticut’s Office of Tourism will be positioned alongside global destinations and brands committed to year-round support of LGBTQ+ welcoming travel.

“Connecticut has long led the nation on critical issues facing the LGBTQ+ community, and that is why I’m incredibly proud that we are the first state to join IGLTA as a global partner and emphasize to LGBTQ+ travelers in the U.S. and abroad that they are welcome and celebrated in our state,” Lamont said.

The announcement last week coincides with Connecticut’s latest tourism campaign dubbed “Find Your Vibe,” and a newly revamped state tourism website. The website contains an LGBTQ+ section CT LGBTQ+ | Visit CT (ctvisit.com) featuring things to do all year for the community to enjoy.

Noelle P. Stevenson, director of the Connecticut Office of Tourism, said, “The LGBTQ+ community has always been an integral part of Connecticut’s fiber and the state’s tourism industry, and we’re putting that message front and center all year round.”

Some popular places in Connecticut with the LGBTQ+ crowd - from cocktails to dance clubs - include 168 York St. Café, New Haven; Chez Est, Hartford; Partners, New Haven; and Troupe429, Norwalk.

Some of the state’s annual events celebrating the LGBTQ+ community include Hartford Pride, PRIDE New Haven and OUT Film CT Festival.
