New Haven’s Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center has launched a nonprofit foundation to help fundraise to meet the growing need for patient services and health programs in the community, the center’s board announced last week.
Philanthropist and community leader Lindy Lee Gold was named chair of the foundation’s board, and Michael R. Taylor, Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center’s CEO, was named president.
Center Board Chair Orlando Cordero said, “We believe that the foundation, working passionately to support the quality of care provided by Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, will make a difference in New Haven and the surrounding communities.”
The new foundation is needed to help the center respond to patient needs, according to a statement. Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center (CS-HHC) recorded more than 400,000 patient visits by 55,000 Greater New Haven residents in the fiscal year that ended June 30.
“Our foundation will help bridge the gap between increased patient need and our finite resources,” Taylor said.
Gold added, “The foundation will support efforts to increase public knowledge of the remarkable caliber of care and level of commitment as we help to develop the resources necessary for CS-HHC to reach and respond to more people.”
CS-HHC was founded in 1968 as a collaboration between community leaders and the Yale School of Medicine. Clinics affiliated with the center provide primary care, behavioral healthcare and addiction services, dental services, pediatrics and early childhood care.
The center operates healthcare sites in New Haven, Ansonia and West Haven, with the administrative offices located at 400 Columbus Ave. in New Haven.
