CT Post Mall to reopen next week

The Connecticut Post Mall in Milford has joined the list of shopping centers planning to reopen on May 20.

Earlier this week, management for the Westfarms Mall and the Westfield malls in Meriden and Trumbull also announced they would be opening.

Gov. Ned Lamont’s office recently released “Reopen Connecticut” guidelines for the first phase of allowing certain businesses to reopen

Lamont had closed “non-essential” businesses, including malls and many other establishments, in March via executive order due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are excited to welcome back customers to Connecticut Post Mall,” management wrote on the mall’s website this week. “We’ve missed you.”

The mall will be open on a reduced schedule, including Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. The change in hours is to allow for additional time for cleaning and disinfecting the premises after the mall closes. Management will review and potentially modify the hours following a 30-day period.

Per Lamont’s guidelines, mall management also will restrict the number of shoppers in order to limit the occupancy rate at any given time to 50 percent.

Specific store openings within the mall may not coincide with the mall’s reopening date. Details on opening dates for tenants will be announced in the coming days.

Shoppers will notice changes when they return, such as dividers at entries and exits to help maintain pedestrian traffic flow and social distancing. Signage will encourage shoppers to wear face coverings, maintain distancing from others, and frequently wash their hands.

Custodial staff will regularly clean surfaces throughout the facility, particularly “high-contact” areas such as chairs, tables and restrooms.

PlaySpace and family lounges are temporarily closed, as they are considered to be “high-contact” amenities. In the food court, orders are to-go, and floor decals will remind customers to remain six feet from one another.

Several of the mall’s retailers and restaurants will expand to offer “Retail-to-Go” curbside service, according to the announcement. Shoppers who prefer not to shop indoors can make purchases online or via telephone, then pick up what they bought curbside without leaving their vehicles.
