The Fair Haven Community Health Center (FHCHC) has been awarded funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration to expand services to individuals with substance-use disorders, as well as in recognition of the high quality of clinical care delivered by the organization.

FHCHC provides integrated health care at dedicated locations and schools in New Haven and East Haven, as well as through a partnership with BHcare in Branford.

The health center received funding totaling $156,196 as part of a $400 million award to increase access to treatment for substance-abuse disorders and mental health. Between 2016 and 2018, the number of patients receiving medication-based treatment for opioid addiction at HRSA-funded health centers increased 142 percent. With continued expansion of its substance-use disorder and mental health services, Fair Haven Community Health Care is addressing community needs and providing services to patients irrespective of their ability to pay.

“This funding helps us provide additional clinical services to our community” said FHCHC CEO Suzanne Lagarde, MD in a statement. “Our addiction medicine program continues to grow, and we are committed to ensure our capacity to expand further.”

In addition to expansion of services, FHCHC was awarded recognition from HRSA as a “Gold” National Health Center Quality Leader, the highest level of health-center quality leadership awarded. Of the approximately 1,400 health centers in the U.S., Gold Award Health Center Quality Leaders achieved the top 10 percent overall clinical performance among all health centers for clinical quality measures for 2018.

In addition, the health center received recognition as an organization that uses health information technology to increase access to care and advance quality of care.

“As a patient-centered medical home, all of the staff at FHCHC work with a singular mission to improve the health of our patients in greater New Haven, East Haven and Branford,” said Lagarde. “Our diabetes, asthma and hypertension data coupled with our preventive efforts in colon cancer screening, cervical cancer screening and immunizations are among the very best in the country.”
