Farmington advanced manufacturer Mott Corp. announced that it has partnered with a South Korean company to provide filtration technology for an oil refinery’s petrochemical project in the East Asian country.
Mott and its South Korean partner, DL E&C, will provide the technology to South Korean refiner S-Oil, which is building the world's largest naphtha-fed steam cracker.
A steam cracker uses a high-temperature process that involves steam to break down hydrocarbon chemicals into smaller hydrocarbons.
S-Oil’s project will produce chemicals such as ethylene from naphtha, which is a flammable oil commonly used as a solvent.
Mott did not say how much the agreement is worth, but noted it’s in the “eight-figure” range.
"This new partnership advances our strategy to apply our world class filtration and flow control technology to a variety of end markets," said Patrick Hill, vice president of process systems for the Americas at Mott. "We're proud to partner with DL E&C to deliver this custom-engineered filtration system and play a part in the ambitious Shaheen project."
Ethylene is used in the production of many products, including plastics and textiles. Mott's advanced filter system removes fine particulates from the steam-cracking processes.
Mott, an employee-owned company, acquired the Italian filtration supplier ASCO Filtri in 2022 and Michigan-based water reclamation innovator Digested Organics in March of this year.
