The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees recently voted to rename a business school department and the university’s Human Rights Institute after alumni who have given a combined $20 million to the state’s flagship university.
Former Republican state Sen. Toni Boucher, a 2002 UConn graduate, and her late husband Henry Boucher, who was a management consultant and entrepreneur, donated $8 million to the UConn School of Business, its largest-ever gift.
As part of the donation, UConn has established the Boucher Management & Entrepreneurship Department in its business school. UConn said the gift will also allow it to offer new programming in education for founders, inventors and scientists. The donation will also double the teaching capacity of the new student venture fund program, UConn said.
UConn also announced the Human Rights Institute will be renamed the Gladstein Family Human Rights Institute in honor of the legacy of 1966 alum Gary Gladstein.
Gladstein, the university said, has given nearly $11.6 million to the school, including $9.5 million to support initiatives around human rights.
