Glastonbury’s PW Power Systems has officially changed its name in recognition of its relationship with parent company, Florida-based Mitsubishi Power Americas Inc.
The Connecticut manufacturer, which makes gas-powered electricity generators, will now be known as Mitsubishi Power Aero, officials announced Thursday.
The rebranding is intended to signal a period of closer collaboration between parent company and subsidiary, especially as global demand for on-site power generation capabilities grows and the technology itself becomes more sophisticated.
“We are utilizing Mitsubishi Power supply chain assets around the world to support new equipment manufacturing as well as aftermarket services,” said Mitsubishi Power Aero President and CEO Raul Pereda. “Our engineering teams are collaborating to make our gas turbines more competitive, including applications with hydrogen fuel, remote monitoring and artificial intelligence."
PW Power Systems started off as a branch of East Hartford jet engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, applying that company’s expertise in aerospace to create and market commercial gas turbines.
Pratt’s onetime parent company, Farmington-based United Technologies Corp., sold PW Power Systems to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. in 2013 during a period of consolidation. At the time, UTC was focusing on its core aerospace businesses and divesting from unrelated segments.
