The Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 24th annual Chamber Choice Awards at a dinner event last Thursday at Cascade Fine Catering on Sherman Avenue in Hamden.
Five companies and a host of individuals were cited for their contributions to the chamber and their hometown during 2019.
Award recipients were chosen based on their professional contributions, leadership and commitment to the community.
“It’s an honor for us to have so many worthy recipients, all of whom are dedicated to making this region’s business community thrive,” said Ian Williams, chairman of the HRCC board of directors.
Press Cuozzo Realtors received “Business of the Year” honors, an award conferred in honor of the late Lucian Addario.
“Small Business of the Year” was Joseph A. Conte Jewelers, a Whitney Avenue fixture for some 15 years.
“Women-Owned Business” for 2019 honors went to the Bauer Law Group LLC, whose founder principal is family-law practitioner Renée C. Bauer.
“Minority-Owned Business” honors went to Jason Teal of Bomb Wings & Rice Bar on Whitney Avenue.
The chamber’s “Notable Citizen” award was given to Ray Andrewsen, longtime guiding light and popular air personality for radio station WQUN-AM before the station’s owner, Quinnipiac University, pulled the plug on the broadcast outlet earlier this year.
“Since 1996, this event has impacted our region by shining a spotlight on the many people who make a difference every day in our community,” said Hamden chamber President Nancy Dudchik. “Over the years we have honored more than 170 businesses and individuals. We look forward to continuing to be the leader that provides the forum for deserving businesses and individuals to tell their story and be celebrated.”
