Hartford-based law firm Shipman & Goodwin and a group of 13 Washington, D.C.-based insurance coverage litigators are parting ways.
In a statement released Wednesday, Shipman officials said the insurance coverage group will leave the company and become its own, independent operation.
“The amicable separation will permit each firm to focus on their respective practices,” the statement said. “As Shipman has grown its business, environmental, education and litigation practices nationally, the firm has encountered an increasing number of conflicts due to the specialized insurance coverage practice.”
“We are committed to serving our clients as we have done for more than 100 years and we wish our former colleagues the best,” said Leander Dolphin, managing partner of Shipman. “For mutual clients, Shipman will continue to handle corporate, labor and employment, litigation and privacy matters.”
Shipman has more than 140 attorneys at offices in Connecticut and New York.
