Mohegan, the parent company of Mohegan Sun, announced that it will end its management agreement with Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City at the end of the year.

In 2012, Mohegan acquired a 10% ownership interest in Resorts and entered into a management agreement with the casino-hotel, making it the first Native American-operated casino in Atlantic City, at a time when Resorts was struggling.

“We’re extremely proud of our relationship with Resorts Casino Hotel and what we have helped accomplish,” said Ray Pineault, president and CEO of Mohegan. “We want to express our deepest gratitude to our Resorts team members, guests and the Atlantic City community for their support and dedication throughout our tenure as manager.”

Resorts was Atlantic City’s first casino hotel and opened in 1978.

At the end of the agreement, Mohegan will retain its 10% ownership interest in Resorts.

Mohegan said it is committed to ensuring a smooth transition process to maintain the continuity services.

According to New Jersey gambling regulators, Resorts had $163 million in gambling revenue last year.
