Pepe’s planning new pizzeria location in South Florida

Wooster Square legend Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is opening a new location in Plantation, Florida, according to state records.

The Meriden-based company is in the process of licensing with the state of Florida for a location at 321 N. University Dr. in Plantation, a landlocked city of 90,000 close to the Everglades in western Broward County.

Pepe’s is also hiring for the location on its website, although Plantation is not listed among its official locations. Apizza experts can look for jobs as cooks, servers, managers and counter staff in the Sunshine State — as long as they don’t mind Plantation’s climate, described as “tropical rainforest” by Wikipedia.

The new Pepe’s in Plantation is located in a densely developed commercial district that is also home to chains including TGI Friday’s and Red Lobster, along with an outpost of Cuban favorite La Carreta, Scruby’s BBQ and Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar.

Plantation is not exactly an apizza wasteland, either. Top pizzerias include Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, Sicilian Oven and Vivace Gourmet Pizza & Pasta, according to TripAdvisor.

Florida is the latest new location for Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, with local publications reporting that the chain has signed leases in Maryland and Alexandria, Virginia.
