A slight increase in I-91 traffic in Hartford could be seen and heard throughout downtown’s central business district Wednesday morning as the Capital City remained eerily quiet amid the start of Connecticut’s phased reopening during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Downtown restaurants such as Bear's Smokehouse BBQ in the Front Street District and Trumbull Kitchen, 150 Trumbull St., were seen Wednesday morning positioning and sanitizing outdoor patio seating ahead of their reopenings at around noon.

Surface and garage parking areas were also largely empty downtown as numerous businesses contacted by Hartford Business Journal this week, including Travelers Cos., Marcum, Infosys and Aetna, either weren’t reopening right away Wednesday, or are doing it gradually over the spring and summer months.
