Trump’s one-time Greenwich estate on market

PHOTO | CONTRIBUTED This waterfront estate at 21 Vista Dr. in Greenwich was once owned by former President Donald Trump and features amenities like an indoor movie theater.

A Greenwich waterfront estate once owned by former President Donald Trump and his late ex-wife Ivana is back on the market for $29.9 million.

Complete with a guarded gatehouse, indoor movie theater, tennis court and 11 bedrooms with views of Long Island Sound, the estate is located at 21 Vista Dr. in Greenwich in the private Indian Harbor Association.

The nearly 20,000-square-foot, Georgian-style mansion is situated on roughly six acres. The Trumps bought the estate in 1982, and after the couple’s divorce, the property went to Ivana in the 1990s.

The current owners, former Bear Stearns executive Robert Steinberg and his wife Suzanne, purchased the estate in 1998 for $15 million.

The estate has been on and off the market over the years. In 2014 it was listed for $54 million. As of last August, the estate went on the market at a significantly lower price of $29.9 million.

Listing agent Rob Johnson, of Brown Harris Stevens, said "the pricing has been addressed and the market has improved…hopefully those two things will come together to give us some more positive results."

Johnson added the property has some “interested parties,” and the fact that it was once home to a former U.S. president (well before Trump became president) is certainly a selling point, he said.

According to the latest information from the town of Greenwich’s Assessor’s Office, the home has an appraised value of $25.8 million, and an assessed value of $18.9 million, and the land has an appraised value of $4.9 million and assessed value of $3.4 million.

Built in 1939 on the tip of a peninsula, the home boasts 11 bedrooms, 15 full bathrooms and three half bathrooms, eight wood-burning fireplaces, a soaring double staircase, marble accents, carved wood mantels and hardwood floors throughout, among other amenities.

The 5.8-acre grounds have more than 750 feet of shoreline footage. The property also features an outdoor pool, tennis court and deep water dock. An addition built in 2000 features an indoor lap pool, a great room with vaulted, 20-foot ceilings and guest rooms with private entrances. There’s also a five-car attached garage.

According to Johnson, waterfront living and privacy often don’t go hand in hand, but that’s not the case with this Greenwich property.

"It’s extremely rare to have nearly six acres of waterfront land in Greenwich especially in a private, gated community,” Johnson said. “With this property, you can have both."

The estate has access to nearby transportation via Metro-North Railroad (Greenwich, Cos Cob, Old Greenwich) and Interstate I-95, and borders Stamford and New York.
