Scheduled for June 11 at the Wyndham Southbury Hotel, the event will feature presentation of the following honors:

• The 2019 Organizational Excellence Award to Vitas Healthcare.

• The 2019 Stephen Sasala Health Advocate Award to Joe Cappello, co-founder (with his wife Nancy Capello) of Are You Dense Inc.. and Are You Dense Advocacy Inc.. in Waterbury.

• The 2019 Leadership Award to S. Mark Albini, MD of Naugatuck Valley Health Specialists and Saint Mary’s Hospital.

• The 2019 Unsung Hero Award to Leslie Swiderski, RN, coordinator of the Waterbury Health Access Program.

With locations in Waterbury, Norwalk and Glastonbury, Organizational Excellence Award-winner Vitas Healthcare has been a hospice and national provider of end-of-life care. The company operates an inpatient unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital while also serving clients in their own homes throughout the region and the state. In 2018, it provided $111.4 million in charity care to hospice patients nationwide.

Health Advocate Award-winner Cappello is executive director of Are You Dense Inc. and Are You Dense Advocacy Inc., which he co-founded with his wife Nancy Cappello, who passed away in November. The groups were formed in 2008 to educate and legislate for women with dense breast tissue.

Leadership Award-winner Albini has chaired the obstetrics and gynecology department at Saint Mary’s for two decades. The Waterbury native is also medical director of the hospital’s Valley Health Alliance Accountable Care Organization, which works to improve care within the health-care system while reducing costs.

Unsung Hero award-winner Swiderski has worked as coordinator of the Waterbury Health Access Program (WHAP), a grant-funded, citywide consortium of health-care and community partners serving thousands of low-income residents.

The breakfast event will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11 at the Wyndham Southbury Hotel. More information about the event is available at waterburychamber.com or by phoning 203-757-0701.
