Women’s retailer to close stores, including five in CT

Women’s clothing retailer Avenue Stores LLC has announced plans to shut down all of its 222 locations, including five in Connecticut.

The New Jersey-based specialty retailer says it’s in the process of selling its brick-and-mortar locations throughout the U.S. That includes sites in Manchester, Meriden, Hamden, Milford and Danbury.

It was not immediately clear Friday how many people Avenue Stores employs in Connecticut, or which date stores here will close.

In the meantime, Avenue Stores officials said in a statement it’s offering discounts of up to 50 percent on all merchandise.

Founded in 2012, the retailer currently operates in 33 states, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and New Hampshire.
