Danbury-based FuelCell Energy inks $8M contract with U.S. Dept. of Energy

Danbury-based FuelCell Energy Inc. has inked an $8 million contract with the U.S. Department of Energy for a project to commercialize technology that converts chemical energy of a fuel and oxidant directly into electric energy.

FuelCell, the largest manufacturer of Connecticut-made fuel cells, received the funding through a DOE program to develop system approaches to achieving ultra-high electrical efficiency with solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology. 

“We continue to make progress in advancing our solid oxide fuel cell platform toward commercialization with the aid of key DOE programs in addition to our own capital investment,” FuelCell CEO Jason Few said.

The DOE funding will allow FuelCell to continue research and development in its attempts to commercialize SOFC technology to create higher efficiency electricity production, Few said.
