Subway will move its Connecticut corporate headquarters from Milford to Shelton, the company announced Monday.

The sandwich chain said it had leased 90,000 square feet at 1 Corporate Drive, the flagship office tower at the heart of the Enterprise Corporate Park in Shelton built by R.D. Scinto, Inc. The lease term is 15 years, according to a Subway statement.

The building at 1 Corporate Drive, located off  Route 8 at exit 12, also houses the offices of R.D. Scinto and offers amenities like a fitness facility, spa, five cafés, il Palio restaurant and a 200-person auditorium.

“All functions of the company’s existing Milford-based team will transition to the new space” by spring 2023, according to Subway.

Subway also confirmed on Monday that it had moved some divisions to Miami, Fla., where a “second headquarter location” is due to be complete by the fall.

“Connecticut and Miami will co-exist as the main corporate offices for Subway,” a spokesperson said on Monday.

“Consumer-facing functions are now based in Miami and enable even stronger integration between Subway and Independent Purchasing Cooperative, Inc. (IPC), Subway’s franchisee-owned and operated purchasing and supply chain cooperative,” the statement said.

The new location in Shelton is about 10 miles away from the company’s current headquarters at 325 Sub Way in Milford. Subway moved its offices to Milford shortly after it was founded in Bridgeport in 1965. Milford’s mayor has said that the company will retain some workers in the city.

CEO John Chidsey said, “We’re extremely excited about our new location in Shelton that will feature an upgraded, modernized workspace as well as outstanding amenities within the corporate complex.”

Bill Ekstrom, Subway director of business services, said, “In addition to being able to offer many additional features and an elevated, contemporary space, it was of utmost importance that we found a location that would provide minimal disruption to our employees.”

Subway announced earlier this month that it was contemplating the move within Connecticut, seeking a more modernized and convenient workplace.

“We explored multiple options as we started on the journey to refresh our offices in Connecticut, taking into consideration the community we’ve been a part of for nearly 50 years, while also ensuring we’re able to provide our employees an exceptional workplace experience both professionally and personally,” Chidsey said on Monday.
